Europe electronics retailer deploying mobile self-checkout

Jan. 9, 2019

MediaMarketSaturn, the largest consumer electronics retailer in Europe, is using MishiPay's mobile self-checkout technology in its Hamburg store.

The "scan, pay, leave" service lets consumers use smartphones to scan and pay for more than 100,000 products without having to get in a check-out line, according to a press release.

The technology was initially trialed in Europe's first cashier-less electronics store in Innsbruck early in 2018.

"Our project in Innsbruck earlier this year utilized MishiPay's mobile self-checkout technology and the results far exceeded our expectations. The very positive response from customers has encouraged us to offer mobile self-checkout across a large floor space for the first time," said Martin Wild, chief innovation officer of the MediaMarktSaturn Retail Group, in the release.

MishiPay is a British start-up and its solution integrates into retailers' existing payment systems, according to the release.
