Company to Sign Statement of Support with Defense Department on Aircraft Carrier

NEW YORK, August 27, 2014 – First Data Corporation, the global leader in payment technology and services solutions, will today pledge to provide more employment opportunities for National Guardsmen, Reservists and Veterans at a signing ceremony at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum in New York City.

In recognition of the values, leadership and unique skills that military service members bring to the workforce, First Data will sign a Statement of Support with the Defense Department’s Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) office, reaffirming the company’s pledge to encourage greater hiring of service members, while also ensuring that managers and supervisors have the tools they need to effectively manage employees who serve in the Guard and Reserve.  The ceremony will take place today at 3 p.m. EDT.

First Data Chairman and CEO Frank Bisignano, ESGR National Chairman Major General Paul Mock (Ret.), and the highest ranking National Guardsman in New York Major General Patrick A. Murphy, will be joined on the Intrepid by numerous national and local dignitaries.

“Supportive employers are crucial to maintaining the strength and readiness of the nation’s Reserve and National Guard units and First Data is helping lead the way,” said Maj. Gen. Mock.  “From offsetting lost wages and extending healthcare benefits to employees when they’re mobilized to actively recruiting veterans for new employment opportunities, First Data goes the extra mile to support the military community.”

Bisignano said, “Military personnel are committed to serving our country and First Data is committed to them. We recognize the sacrifice that service members and their families make for our freedom and we take great pride in employing and supporting them.”

First Data is a longtime supporter of ESGR and has received numerous awards, including the Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award, the highest recognition for employers for support of employees who serve in the National Guard and Reserve.  First Data is also a member of the 100,000 Jobs Mission, the Military Spouse Employment Partnership, and Operation: Impact, Network of Champions, national coalitions supporting veteran, military spouse, and wounded, ill, and injured service members respectively.
