John Ekers

John Ekers                   Global CIO                       ABnote

John Ekers is Global CIO for ABnote Corp based in the ABnote Boston location. He is responsible for ABnote's global systems and solutions, software platforms and strategy including ABnote’s Near Field Communications (NFC) and Trusted Services Manager (TSM) platforms along with managing the ABnote Global Technology Team.  John has held a variety of positions within ABnote including three years based in Australasia as CTO for the regional group overseeing the ERP, infrastructure, documents technology and card technology groups.  Prior to ABnote John was Director of Product Marketing for Fargo Electronics, a manufacturer of secure desktop card printers.  In this capacity he was responsible for the development of printer drivers, secure software enrollment and issuance platforms.  John began his smartcard career in 1996 with Gemplus (now Gemalto) as a Smartcard Developer, advancing to Development Manager for the Gemplus America’s bureau operations and eventually becoming Bureau Director.   In 2000, John became Director of Advanced Personalization Technologies for Gemplus Americas where he and his team built the first scheme certified data center for remote provisioning of multi-application smartcards. Prior to John’s involvement in the world of smartcards, he was an entrepreneur who built Main Street Planning, a company based on a software mapping and routing solution he wrote that provided visual support to assist government emergency dispatch centers responding to E-911 calls.
