Pebble, the famous watch manufacturer that raised its money on kickstarter and that excited thousands of consumers into giving tens of millions of dollars, was acquired recently by Fitbit for $34m, well below what they raised on kickstarter. This is beginning to show the limitation of the model in the long run for technology companies that require more capital to stay sustainable.

Thierry started his career in the shipping industry where he did a couple of internships before joining Busoga Trust, an NGO similar to UNICEF, where he worked on a water project in Uganda. Instead of following the traditional route of acquiring an MSc in Finance, he decided to pursue an MSc degree in Entrepreneurship at Imperial College in London instead. Robin is an investment professional who has been working at the European Investment Fund (“EIF”) since 2003 in various areas of the company including the Risk Management division and as an Investment Manager for Venture Capital fund-of-fund investments across the EU. He recently spent a stint away from head office establishing and heading the EIF’s Bratislava office and is currently responsible for business development in the CE region. He holds a BA Hons degree from the University of Durham, and is a CFA charterholder.
