Graft virtual currency network sets first public test

The Global Real-Time Authorizations and Funds Transfers project is planning a public alpha test of the network, which would allow real-time transactions over a decentralized payment network involving bitcoin and ethereum at the point of sale.

The network will allow a user to conduct business using a chosen digital asset and wallet and allow the merchant to settle the transaction in their chosen currency, including fiat. In September, Graft announced it completed its first instant real-time transfer on the network, taking less than two seconds, according to a press release.

"With functioning supernodes being put through the rigors, this project is ready for its next stage, which is opening the network and allowing the community at large to participate and test this newly developed, critical layer, two function [and] getting it ready for the Mainnet," Slava Gomzin, co-creator of Graft, said in the release.

Buyers are not charged for using the network and merchants are only required to pay a fee that is similar to credit card trasnaction fees.

Nov. 12, 2018

Splio, the Paris-based marketing automation and loyalty platform, announced that it had acquired French startup firm Gowento, a mobile customer engagement platform that allows the integration of its mobile wallet technology to the combined company, in a blogpost and company release.

Splio said the acquisition comes six months after it rolled out WeChat as a new channel and just a month after launching support for new customer loyalty programs.

"Gowento is already integrated into the Splio customer platform and allows customers to seamlessly add mobile wallets via email or SMS," Charles Wells, chief product & marketing officer told Mobile Payments Today, via email. "Additional features including push wallet notifications from the Splio platform are being developed."

Wells said that all ten of Gowento's employees have joined Splio at its Paris headquarters, and Gowento would continue to operate as "Gowento, a Splio company" for the next 12 months, however that company brand name will be later retired.

Founded by Rabye Marouene, Sebastien Alexandre and Loris Guignard, in 2015, the Paris-based Gowento has expanded to more than 50 customers, including Fnac, L'Occitane and Nicolas, a French wine retailer that is a joint customer of both firms, and has operated in 60 countries worldwide.

CellPoint Mobile: 'Caribbean airlines should embrace mobile payment'

Nov. 11, 2018

CellPoint Mobile is urging Caribbean airlines to embrace direct mobile channels as their main point of sale with customers, in a new blogpost on the telco firm’s website.

James Schildknecht, director, integrated mobile marketing solutions, said in a blog post last week that carriers in the region should embrace direct mobile payment as a means of reducing distribution costs and also to embrace cross-border capabilities, since many of their passengers fly into the region from the U.S., Latin America or other islands.

In late October, CellPoint Mobile announced an agreement with Port-au-Prince, Haiti-based Sunrise Airways, to provide web and mobile payment technology to the regional carrier.

CellPoint, which specializes in travel-related mobile payments for airlines, hotels and ground transit services, plans to integrate its Velocity payment platform into the Sunrise passenger service system and speed the rollout of multiple payment capabilities into the airline’s route network.

Sunrise, offers service from its Port-au-Prince hub to Cap Haitien, Haiti; Havana, Camaguey and Santiago de Cuba; Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and Curacao. Besides Sunrise, the mobile provider also works with AVA Airways in the Dominican Republic.

The carrier plans to launch new service to Kingston, Jamaica and Providenciales, Turks and Caicos, pending government approval. The closely held carrier said it expects to fly a total of 200,000 passengers this year.
