Huobi Group, a Chinese cryptocurrency exchange, has partnered with enterprise blockchain startup Nervos to create a public blockchain called "FinanceChain." This solution will allow companies to create and deploy digital assets as tokens. The companies are aiming to compete with Facebook's Libra cryptocurrency with this solution, according to a report by Technode.

With FinanceChain, end users can create blockchains, tokenized assets and decentralized financial services. These services include:

Lending and payment services.Decentralized exchanges.Stablecoins.Security token offerings.

"Huobi's public chain is designed with the intention of becoming an infrastructure that supports global currency, assets and financial markets built on blockchain," Leon Li, founder and CEO of Huobi Group, said in the report. "From a strategic point of view, decentralized financial services are still in an early stage of development. The market demand is clear, however, and we believe this is a very definite business opportunity."

Klarna Bank AB entered an agreement with BigCommerce to expand its existing U.S. partnership to allow that company's European merchants to use European merchants to offer Klarna's Pay Later and Slice It financing options to their customers.

The Pay Later option allows customers to split up a retail purchase into four smaller payments. Slice it offers financing to customers making online purchases.

"BigCommerce is thrilled to now offer Klarna to our thousands of European merchants," Brent Bellm, chief executive officer of BigCommerce, said in a company release. Masabi teams with Jorudan on mobile ticketing for Japanese bus service

Masabi Jorudan mobile ticketing app

Masabi, a provider of mobile ticketing and payment for public transit, has entered an agreement with Jorudan, a Japanese trip planning service, to provide mobile ticketing capability within the Jorudan app, according to a company release.

The agreement will allow more than 10 million Jorudan customers throughout Japan to buy tickets on the Syoei Express Bus directly through Jorudan's Norikae Annai app, officials said. Additional transportation companies will soon be added to the partnership.

Jorudan uses the Justride External Orders API to transmit reservations and ticket information located within the Norikae Annai app to Masabi's JustRide SDK. Passengers using a secure digital wallet are in turn sent a visual and bar coded mobile ticket.

The bus service connects from the Tokyo area, which also includes Shinjuki and Ikebukuro and the city of Nagano, including stops in Karuizawa.

Nets, Swish launch in-store tap-and-pay pilot for restaurants, merchants in Sweden

July 3, 2019

Payments firm Nets A/S and Swedish payments app Swish announced a plan to launch a pilot program at two restaurants that are owned by one of the country's leading corporate cantinas, and later expand to additional merchants.

"Seven million Swedes walk around with the Swish app in their pocket, and it's clear that the demand for easier in-store payments is increasing," Par Ekroth, marketing manager at Swish, said in a company release from Nets. "As such, we are pleased to offer mobile payments functionality to our customers."

Swish customers can pay in-store using a tap-and-pay system that Nets developed by adding a Bluetooth box to the company's payment terminals. Therefore, most merchants will not need to buy new hardware to accept Swish payments.

Nets provides similar Bluetooth functionality to Danish merchants, which allows them to pay using mobile wallets.

"The payment experience is similar to making a contactless payment, which consumers are accustomed to — particularly in countries like Sweden with high digital penetration," said Jan Lundequist, senior vice president, Nets merchant services. "Not only can merchants easily install the solution and accept Swish payments through their existing Nets terminals, but it's also easy and intuitive for consumers to use."

NYS leads 25 state AGs opposing CFPB changes to bank overdraft rules

July 2, 2019

A coalition of 25 state Attorneys General led by New York State AG Leticia James have written a joint letter to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, stating their opposition to any rollback or modification of bank overdraft fee rules claiming it will hurt consumers.

The existing rules allow banks to charge overdraft fees for ATM transactions and debit purchases after they have been fully notified of the charges and after they opt in to use the services.

"If the CFPB rolls back this rule, it would put hard working people in harms way by allowing banks to charge more overdraft fees, all in the name of corporate greed," James said in a release from her office. "Consumers across New York deserve the chance to make informed decisions about their finances, so I urge the CFPB to give them the opportunity and create a more efficient and fair marketplace."

The rule, which originally went into effect in 2010, is based on the concern that consumers usually get overdraft services by default, but are not clearly informed of the rules under which they work.
