Switch Inc. announced the launch of a pilot program with CUNA Strategic Services to provide its CardUpdatr app to credit unions across the U.S., according to a company release.

The CardUpdatr app, which operates on web and mobile sites, will automatically update merchant sites with credit union cards during the pilot program.

"The CardUpdatr solution is uniquely positioned to propel credit unions to the frontline of innovation to increase cardholder satisfaction and differentiate themselves from other financial institutions," Eric Gelly, president of CUNA Strategic Services, said in the release.

CardUpdatr is an app that can be used for a number of different marketing programs, including activation, reissuance as well as card use promotion.

Switch CEO Chris Hoppen said that financial institutions can use technologies like this to effectively deal with member loyalty and long-term growth.

"Significant transaction volume attrition stems from daily reissuance, moreover newly issued cards may never see a return on investment because cardholders do not update the online accounts where these cards are used the most," Hoppen said in the release.

Polish bank to offer blockchain document authentication

June 19, 2019

Alior, a Polish bank based in Warsaw, has announced a feature to allow customers to check the integrity and authentication of documents through the Ethereum blockchain. The solution uses a smart contract to store a digital signature linked to the name and block number on the Ethereum blockchain. Customers can check these documents to ensure they have not been changed or tampered with, according to a report by Forbes.

Poland requires banks to give customers access to documents in a "durable medium." Its Office of Competition and Consumer Protection also ruled that a bank's website page does not qualify as durable as it can easily be changed. This is why Alior turned to the blockchain.

"We want people to verify that we did everything right and we don’t conceal anything. If we say the documents are actually verified and authentic, everybody can check it and confirm," Tomasz Sienicki, lead of blockchain strategy, Alior, said in the report. "That's not possible using a private blockchain. Our mission is to be disruptive, so we want to provide innovative solutions, and we want other banks to follow us as well. We welcome if somebody copied our solution."

In a quest to provide more payment options, specifically for international shoppers, the Neiman Marcus Group is deploying Alipay across its Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman and Neiman's Last Call retail locations nationwide.

It also aims to provide Alipay payment online in the future as well, according to a Women's Wear Daily report. The strategy reflects the retailer's reputation "for offering unsurpassed service and developing better ways for our customers to shop," David Goubert, executive vice president of stores and retail experience for Neiman Marcus Group, told WWD.

"This partnership with Alipay gives our customers a convenient way to pay through channels they already use," Goubert said. "Offering Alipay to our customers is another way we've exceeded our customers' expectations as we've evolved our company into a digital luxury platform. In fact, we've already received a significant amount of position customer feedback as a result of launching this partnership and are now in the process of working to launch Alipay as an online payment option later this year."

Alipay is available at 43 Neiman Marcus and 24 Last Call stores as well as two Bergdorf Goodman stores in the U.S.
