Marquis Software Solutions, a provider of marketing and compliance technology to the financial services sector, says the customer data of some of its bank and credit union clients has been stolen in a cyberattack.

The fintech has filed data breach notifications with a number of US states confirming it suffered a ransomware attack in August that compromised the data of customers from dozens of its clients. Hackers stole the names, dates of birth, postal addresses and Social Security numbers, as well bank account, debit, and credit card numbers of at least 400,000 customers. An investigation concluded that a third party accessed Marquis's network through its SonicWall firewall. Law enforcement was notified and "Marquis is working with its business customers to provide consumer notification," says a notice filed with Maine's attorney general. Texas-based Marquis provides digital and physical marketing products as well as compliance software and services to more than 700 banks and credit unions, according to its website.
