Meet Our Chapter Leaders



ValleyFintechPay is founded by a group of Phoenix area fintech and payments experts with hundreds of cumulative years of experience.

Lanny Byers: Chapter President and led the initiative to start the chapter. He brings over 30 years of experience in the payments industry where he is recognized as an international thought leader in digital payments and loyalty programs. Currently he is the Chief Revenue Office of Vouchr, a fintech startup and is an advisor to a number of companies via his consulting firm Guerdon Solutions.

He brings a broad breadth of experience in FinTech and payments, from credit, debit, prepaid, stored value and faster payments. He was an early innovator in the prepaid card industry and has created and launched a number of startup businesses. He also has a number of issued patents.

He has worked at some of the leading payment companies in the world – Bank One (now JP MorganChase), Bank of America, Western Union, Mastercard, CGI and First Data/Fiserv.

Chris Storbeck: Chapter Vice-President. Chris is a senior executive with 15+ years comprehensive knowledge of payments, fintech, prepaid, stored value, enterprise software, and mobile sectors.

With a forward-thinking, solution-focused approach, his background of success includes achieving multimillion-dollar revenues, transcending new markets, and setting industry precedents. His skills include anticipating and interpreting market trends, building consensus and cultivating strategic vision to deliver forward-thinking solutions.

Storbeck is well-versed in the development of start-ups and global enterprises and has proven success in market expansion and revenue growth.

Sumit Arora: Chapter Board, Engagement. He is a Senior Vice President and the Head of Payments Ecosystem Enablement within Wells Fargo's Enterprise Payments Strategy group. In this role he is responsible for developing and executing strategies with payments industry bodies for bank's future payments initiatives, to help consumers and institutional customers move money seamlessly and securely.

Sumit joined Wells Fargo from Deloitte Consulting where he was an associate partner and a senior leader in Deloitte's payments practice, helping his clients navigate dynamic disruptive markets from delivering strategy to full implementation across the payments value chain. Prior to Deloitte, Sumit was Senior Principal Consultant at Atos Syntel.

Sumit is an author, speaker and contributor to numerous articles, papers, podcast, and conferences. He is a recipient of Business Elite's "40 Under 40" prestigious award, a program that identifies outstanding young Executives and Entrepreneurs in the world's business, visionaries, and innovators changing the way things are done. He is one of the distinguished elected Board of Directors at the U.S. Faster Payments Council.

Laura Weinflash: Chapter Board, Treasurer is a payments and fraud expert in the valley area most recently serving as vice president and product manager at Early Warning. In this role she focused on creating and delivering valuable solutions solving consumers, businesses through Zelle. Most recently, she launched the ability for billers to get paid on websites using Zelle. She led the development of Zelle Risk Insights to help Fls increase send limits while protecting consumers and businesses from frauds and scams. She is leading innovation relating to new opportunities for Zelle payments.

Prior to joining Early Warning, Laura was with Bank One Corporation (now JPMorgan Chase) in key leadership roles.

Steve Nelson is a seasoned management executive with more than 25 years of visible experience in sales, marketing and new venture development. His payments expertise stems from direct experience in financial services market research, strategic planning and consulting, including loyalty & reward services experience with MasterCard International, American Express, Certegy (now Fidelity National Information Services, Inc.) and VCMG, Inc. His payments-related experience encompasses market modeling, competitive analysis, product development, product positioning, and assessment of international payment system opportunities. In the loyalty arena, his work includes research on consumer interest in payment and non-payment card enhancements, customer cross-sell strategies, and the value of loyalty & reward and co-branded card programs.



In addition, Steve developed a proprietary financial transaction system which rewards consumers with consumption-based savings via micro-investments which fund private savings accounts. Steve is sole inventor of two issued patents and co-owner of two additional patents with additional applications pending.


Steve holds a degree in New Venture Development from the Karl Eller Entrepreneurship program at the University of Arizona.

Daniel Chatelain: Board Advisor is a Payment and Fintech industry executive focused on innovation and sitting on the board of directors or advisors of emerging companies. He founded The BayPay Forum to help foster innovation in payment and commerce.

The BayPay Forum is a member-based organization that gathers today over 15,000 executives from thousands of companies and that organizes events for its members to understand the new trends in innovation in payments and commerce in the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Toronto, New York, Paris, London, Luxembourg and now Arizona.

He is the CEO of PayKademy, the new school to learn Payments, that provides courses in-person, on-site and online.

Prior to that, Daniel was CEO, President & COO of companies he started as an entrepreneur or within the Lagardere (Elle, Woman’s Day, Car & Driver, Hachette, Canal Satellite) and EADS group (Airbus, Ariane, Eurocopter) and Vice President of a VC backed companies giving him a wide experience of growing companies domestically and internationally in the banking, telecom and interactive media industries as an entrepreneur, corporate or VC backed senior executive.

Daniel is a Mentor at 500 Startups, Plug&Play, French Tech and Berkeley Venture Capital Group. He also consults with large companies to help them define strategies and create new products in his area of expertise.
