Global Product Data Services is a newly formed team in the product and engineering organization under Customer Experiences and Technology. Its vision is to “Provide Enterprise Product Data at lower cost and better quality”. To achieve this vision, we are looking for people with a passion and curiosity to solve customer problems with data. The internal stakeholders for the Program include but are not limited to PayPal Inc.’s Product Teams, Finance, Risk, Compliance and Strategy Teams. Our External stakeholders include Customers and Regulators amongst others.
We are seeking a well-experienced, hands-on Engineering Director to lead transformation of our product data platforms. The ideal candidate must have strong technology leadership and become a trusted advisor to influence our Technical Teams. You have the technical expertise to lead software and architecture discussions and guide cross-functional product and engineering teams through functional definition, solution, and integration stages on large scale. The candidate should possess deep understanding of financial product data and associated platforms and technology. For example, this experience would include financial product master data, customer data, transaction data, financial reporting data, liquidity and market risk data, financial forecasting data, risk data and regulatory data. Responsibilities include:
  • Work with technical product leads to design and deliver solutions that optimize use of product data.
  • Ability to lead complex discussions and engagements that may involve multiple project teams from PayPal and our partner organizations. 
  • Construct a business and technical architecture that levers industry standards and use cases to create operating efficiency.
  • Provide strategic guidance and direction to development teams.
  • Manage stakeholder planning and communications for key product data outcomes.
  • Oversee technical project delivery process with key contributors to help manage scope.
  • Identify any product/functionality gaps and collaborate internal product and technology teams to define the necessary development to support solution delivery.
  • Be a technical subject matter expert and represent the full internal and external capabilities of the platform.
  • Work closely with internal teams including compliance, privacy, risk, information security, support and operations to ensure all aspects of a launch are managed.
  • Ensure engineering team implements optimal integration strategies, techniques and user experience best practices.
  • Pro-active response in identifying and troubleshooting integration or technical issues.
  • Capture and communicate experiences in formal post-mortem, feeding lessons learned, best practices and resources back into the engineering team.
Participate in the development of architectures, strategies, and policies around data governance; including master data management, metadata management, data quality and data profiling.

Required Skills:

  • 15+ years’ experience building large scalable financial technology platforms
  • Passion for solving business problems with data.
  • Experience in architecture, design and implementation of Financial Systems/Platforms such as Core Banking, Back-end Payment Hubs, Financial reconciliation and reporting, Treasury, Tax, FP&A, etc.
  • Experience in Payments, FinTech, Financial Services industry is required.
  • Expertise in designing for reliability, availability, scalability and performance in highly regulated Financial Services industry preferred.
  • Experience managing large teams in both matrix and direct report structures.
