Finance Manager - Education - Microsoft

The Education segment is part of a company-wide focus to support life-long learning and win the next generation of users for Microsoft – students – who carry the technology skills and preferences developed in school on to their careers, their causes and their families. The Education industry is transforming – flipped classrooms, collaborative learning, personalized learning – all creating an unprecedented opportunity for Microsoft. We are undergoing a fundamental change as we shift customers from on-premise perpetual software to cloud services and subscription plans. This transformation requires us to revisit old, established ways of doing things; think creatively about what the future might look like; and pursue groundbreaking ways of transforming the business.

 

The Education finance team provides key business insight and strategic planning support to a wide range of partners across Microsoft including marketing, sales and engineering for a $2B dollar Education business. The role provides solid exposure to key revenue rhythms (close, forecast, budget, MBR/QBR), KPI setting/scorecard, and strategic product/business planning. This role provides a unique opportunity to develop direct business partner relationships and work on a broader Microsoft 365 business plan that spans across Office, Windows, C+E and Minecraft.

Responsibilities

• Initiate key business solutions to EDU stakeholders across marketing, engineering, sales and finance.
• Drive analytics, insights, and forecasting for Education revenue/GM, users/usage and M365 
• Collaborate with partners across many teams. PMG, EDU Marketing, EDU Sales, Engineering, Modern Work, Modern Life   and Finance
• Perform analysis and suggest recommendations for product and business plans
• Perform routine and ad hoc financial analyses

Qualifications

  • BS/BA degree in Finance, Business Administration, or Economics; MBA preferred
  • 3+ years related finance analysis, planning, or business analysis work experience
  • Impact & Influence: Ability to collaborate and coordinate multiple stakeholders is critical. Must be able to effectively partner with and influence key stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, high pressure environment
  • Passion for technology and curious to further learn the how and why behind the numbers
  • Ability to drive simplicity within a complex and matrixed environment
  • Excellent communication, cross group collaboration and interpersonal skills, able to simplify complicated materials and tell an altitude-appropriate story.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and accuracy
  • Expert skills required in MS Excel, Power Pivot, Power View; MS Finance tools like MSRA preferred
