We work on connecting things behind the scenes to make ideal customer and associate experiences possible, by modeling how Capital One’s dynamic platforms, data, and touchpoints work in concert.

We’re part of the Integrated Experiences team, who are making real-time, intelligent, frictionless associate and customer experiences possible by connecting new technology, a humanistic outlook, and an operating model that can all work together within a culture that’s down to learn and explore. We’re doing this by designing the integrated data ecosystem that our associates live and breathe every day.

To do this we are partnering with fundamental parts of the business, including risk management, finance, and data management to transform how we work at Capital One. As Director, you will lead the design portfolio for the finance ecosystem.   


In this role, you will:

  • Partner with executives, department leaders, and key stakeholders across organizations to identify, define, and prioritize strategies that align common business, customer, and associate needs

  • Engage executives and stakeholders in the design of end-to-end, data driven products and experiences to enable business transformation for the finance organization

  • Define objectives and key results to measure and track the business impact of design initiatives across the finance organization

  • Establish scalable design engagement, interaction, and governance models for integrated Product, Engineering & Design initiatives

  • Align Product, Tech, and Design leadership to minimum viable product scope and delivery roadmaps

  • Oversee the delivery of concurrent finance design workstreams from strategy through to implementation

  • Build relationships across the enterprise and navigate large, complex ecosystems and organizations to identify gaps or opportunity areas and collaboratively solve problems

  • Attract, hire, and retain talent to build highly skilled team of design makers and strategists

  • Guide and mentor Finance Ecosystem Design leads through their development paths

  • Manage a team of 3–6 direct reports and lead a larger team of indirect reports

  • Oversee budget, assess headcount, execute hiring plans to achieve portfolio objectives

  • Advocate for integrated experience design, and foster a community of practice in Finance to drive organizational change and build influencers across Product & Tech

  • Create platforms, operational processes, design systems and frameworks, and practices to effectively, and efficiently deliver integrated design experiences at scale for Finance

  • Share tools, methods, and experience patterns beyond finance to integrate the enterprise ecosystem

Requirements

  • You have deep service design chops with a particular emphasis on business; you understand business frameworks and systemic strategic work; you can spot opportunities to gain operational efficiencies, increase customer engagement, and unlock new revenue opportunities. People come to you for your business acumen

  • You have a track record of thought leadership that includes conferences, teaching, and practice building

  • You have successfully led the design of multi-channel product or service experiences

  • You know how to lead inspired, effective practices and project teams that engender professional growth and make people clamor to work with you again

  • You have mastery of core design methods and can coach designers and non-designers to participate in the design practice and process

  • You have a consultative approach and an infectious collaborative nature

  • You have confidence and pride in your leadership, skills, experience, and expertise (i.e., you are awesome and you know it)

  • Technical fluidity, including familiarity with dual track agile methodology and/or front end development

  • Directly managing and mentoring a team

  • Proven ability to identify and track the business impact of a given initiative across the company

  • Ability to travel 25%

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or greater in design, human-computer interaction, or related design field

  • 10+ years of professional leadership experience designing digital products and multi-channel services

  • Regular speaker at design conferences or teaching seminars

  • Examples and references that demonstrate your ability to successfully lead others

Preferred Qualifications

  • MDes, MS, or MFA in design

  • Demonstrated Agile delivery experience
