Cloud Visibility Firm Orca Security Emerges From Stealth Mode

Israel-based cloud visibility solutions provider Orca Security on Wednesday emerged from stealth mode with $6.5 million in seed funding from YL Ventures.

The Orca Cloud Visibility Platform leverages patent-pending technology named SideScanning to deliver comprehensive, full-stack visibility into an organization’s cloud infrastructure.

The platform, which Orca says can be deployed in minutes, provides visibility into cloud configurations, operating systems, applications, and the business data they store. Users can obtain detailed information about vulnerabilities, misconfigurations, risks and possible breaches.Orca Security

The platform integrates into the cloud infrastructure layer to automatically assess every asset. Orca says the product relies on read-only access with no impact on performance, and it does not require deploying agents or network scanners.

“It is an almost impossible task for CISOs to answer security questions about their organizations’ sprawling cloud deployments. Questions such as, ‘Which servers are vulnerable, misconfigured, unpatched, or even breached?’, ‘Do I have neglected servers no one’s maintained for months?’ and ‘Where is my sensitive data stored?’,” said Avi Shua, CEO and co-founder of Orca Security.

“But organizations shouldn’t be forced to choose between slowing down innovation and accepting unseen and unmanaged risks. We, as a security industry, can and should do better. With Orca, IT and security operations teams gain unprecedented visibility over their entire cloud footprint, allowing them to answer these and many other important questions and to be partners in innovation rather than putting the brakes on it,” Shua added.

The Orca Cloud Visibility Platform is currently in beta and offered only to select customers. It’s expected to become generally available in late 2019.

Orca’s long-term plans include enhancing its platform with threat detection and response, next-generation antivirus, threat hunting and other capabilities. The initial version of the product will work with AWS, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform, but later releases are expected to support private deployments and other cloud platforms as well.
