Since Square started disrupting the acq
uiring market, innovation in this segment of the payment and commerce marke
t has accelerated. We saw many copycats first with magstripe reader dongles
popping up everywhere from PayPal, Intuit, Groupon and many others.
A few things were experimented around the world to change the way we
pay at the Point of Sales, but without major success so far. We saw the ris
e and crash of the contactless cards at the POS due to a lack of transactio
ns and understanding of the value by cardholders. Apple Pay is obviously gi
ving new hopes with a great user experience. SoftCard is reducing its workf
orce showing one more time that our industry is not an easy one.
Fraud has also been on the rise with major data breaches to steal card nu
mbers but the millions. The last one at Target, at the end of last year, wa
s so important that it revived EMV in the US, and with a deadline of Octobe
r 2015, merchants, processors, ISOs and card issuers don’t have much time t
o meet the date.
In parallel, retailers understand the benefits
of taking better care of their customers so a new wave of innovation is br
ewing, changing the consumer experience and completely disrupting this mark
et that has been dormant for so long.
This event is the first o
f a series of events we will organize to put some light on where we are and
what is coming as incumbents and innovators alike are colliding to take th
e new spot creating major business opportunities.
Our first eve
nt on March 9 will focus on the vendor side. We have invited companies like
Verifone, Poynt, Ingenico, Clover, Powa or Square to give them the opportu
nity to share their vision of the future and what is coming.
Sp
aces are limited (140 people) to allow for better networking.
