In 2012, most European countries have registered an increase in card fraud, a recent study point out.

According to European Fraud Map survey released by Fico, a predictive analytics and decision management software company, during the period under review, France has registered the highest card fraud losses (29 percent).The same source unveils that UK has ranked second with 27 percent of the region’s losses.

Contactless payments have reached a critical inflexion point, says Visa Europe, with more than 19 million transactions conducted across Europe in March.

Contactless momentum in the UK has grown significantly in 2013 with 1.5 million Visa contactless transactions being made on London Buses since December, M&S processing over 230,000 contactless transactions every week and the Post Office installing contactless payment terminals in all of its 11,500 branches.

Anne Van Schrader, head of contactless and mobile NFC at Visa Europe, says: "Markets like the UK, Poland and Spain are leading the way in contactless usage...By the end of 2013, Europeans will be making over 52 million contactless transactions every month."

Electronic invoicing isn’t new and has been around some time in the form of electronic data interchange. A question I am frequently asked, and most recently by a UK government Minister, is if e-Invoicing offers such compelling cost savings and efficiencies, then why isn’t everyone doing it?

It’s a great question, and one we are currently attempting to answer within the European Commission’s multi-stakeholder forum on e-Invoicing. The group I am leading is examining the SME market, and asking what the barriers are to full SME adoption. Whichever way you look at it, an SME wanting to initiate e-Invoicing on its own is faced with different challenges and this series of articles intends to examine the choices SMEs have today, and tomorrow.

MPayMe, a Hong Kong-based mobile solutions provider, and First Data, a global provider of electronic commerce and payment processing services, have formed an alliance to provide mobile payment services in Asia-Pacific.

Under the agreement, MPayMe and First Data will work exclusively together in Asia Pacific, and First Data will be the sole distributor and reseller of ZNAP across the region. MPayMe's ZNAP is a mobile business and payment solution that uses QR codes to offer an experience across commerce channels: bill payment, mobile, online, printed advertising and in-store.

French financial institution BNP Paribas has launched a digital mobile bank dubbed Hello bank! in Belgium and Germany followed shortly by France and Italy.

Hello Bank! allows customers to use their mobile devices, tablets (iOS or Android), or via Internet, to manage their budget, organise their outgoings or transfer funds. A team is at their disposal in all Hello bank! countries during extended hours 6 days a week to provide assistance with practical questions related to their accounts or advice on subjects like mortgages and car loans.

US-based financial institution Sovereign Bank, a wholly owned subsidiary of Santander Holdings USA, has launched a new consumer banking application bringing mobile banking services to their customers' Apple and Android devices.

Using the Sovereign Bank mobile app gives customers on-the-go access to: account balances and activity including deposits, withdrawals and interest accrued, transfers between accounts, BillPay functions such as scheduling recurring and one-time payments or checking payment status, ATM/branch locator as well as one-touch customer service.

US-based mobile and online payments company payvia has acquired Mogreet, a mobile video and media messaging engagement solutions provider.

Following the acquisition, the full Mogreet team will join payvia, with Mogreet Founder and CEO James Citron serving as payvia’s Chief Marketing Officer.

Direct Insite, a US provider of cloud-based e-invoicing services for accounts payable, accounts receivable and payments automation, has added Data Dimensions, a provider of outsourced business process automation, as a preferred partner for mailroom, scanning and data capture.

Partnering with Data Dimensions provides Direct Insite’s clients with a modular, end-to-end service for automating the capture of data from mailed-in, faxed or e-mailed invoices. Images and data from the invoices captured by Data Dimensions are electronically transmitted to Direct Insite’s Invoices On-Line e-invoicing platform, where they are processed.

EMV payment standards body EMVCo, currently owned by JCB International, American Express, MasterCard Worldwide and Visa has added Chinese bank card organisation China UnionPay (CUP) as its latest member.

UnionPay now has an equal interest in the standards body. EMVCo’s management structure has been amended to accommodate UnionPay representation on the organisation’s Executive Committee and Board of Managers, in addition to equal participation in its working groups.
