More than half (53 percent) of the UAE consumers have declared they want to switch to a better bank after suffering poor customer service, recent data indicate.

According to a survey carried out by iProspect and Arabian Business, poor customer service and high transaction fees are key reasons for consumers wanting to make the switch. However, the same source shows that complicated administration has prevented many customers from making any change, with 36 percent of consumers mentioning they have not switched due to a lengthy paperwork process.

US-based global technology company NCR Corporation has entered an agreement with mobile payments start-up LevelUp to integrate the latter’s mobile payment and loyalty solution into NCR’s restaurant POS systems.

LevelUp will initially interface with the NCR Aloha POS using a site-based integration, while in parallel developing its solution for deployment via NCR Cloud Connect. LevelUp will integrate into Cloud Connect, a new hosted infrastructure that will allow leading third parties to integrate, maintain and deploy their solution across NCR’s install base of locations on the Aloha, Radiant POS and Advanced Restaurant System platforms.

US-based mobile payment company Tabbedout has teamed up with Google to provide Google Wallet as a payment option in the Tabbedout app for Android.

Under the agreement, at Tabbedout locations, consumers will be able to pay from their phones using their Google accounts. For a limited time, when a user pays with Google Wallet in the Tabbedout app, they'll get USD 7 off their next tab. This offer will be sent to the user automatically, stored in their digital wallet and can be redeemed instantly off their next tab.

Square is to move into PayPal's core territory with the invitation-only launch of a P2P email cash transfer service, dubbed Square Cash.

Users can send cash by registering their debit card with Square, sending an e-mail with the recipient's name in the "To" field, and CC'ing This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. . The dollar amount goes in the subject line. It costs 50 cents a transaction to send money, but nothing to receive. Recipients must also link their debit card to get clear funds within 48 hours.

Square's push into e-mail funds transfers comes just a week after Google announced a similar feature for users of its popular Gmail service.

US-based mobile point of sale (POS) services provider PayAnywhere has entered an agreement with D&H Distributing, a North American computer products and consumer electronics distributor, to kick off the second phase of the company’s retail rollout strategy.

The partnership extends the availability of PayAnywhere’s mobile point of sale (mPOS) solution to small and independent retailers through the country’s largest distributors. Retailers working with D&H distributors can now offer their customers the PayAnywhere mobile point of sale solution as a way to conduct on-the-spot credit and debit card transactions using the mobile credit card reader.

Savantor, a UK-based provider of business and technical expertise to the payment industry, has collaborated with Finnish mobile network operator Elisa for the launch of the latter’s contactless payment method in Finland.

The new service includes an application on mobile devices for contactless payments, separate online payment cards, an online and mobile payment application as well as money transfers between users. The payment tools were developed in collaboration with MasterCard and use MasterCard PayPass technology. Contactless payments can be made in point of sale locations that use near-field communication (NFC) card technology.

Supply chain standards organisation GS1 and Open Mobile Alliance (OMA), a mobile standards organization, are collaborating to enable barcode scanning features built directly into mobile devices. This will make it easier for application developers to allow their apps to scan and link to trusted content.

GS1 and OMA will develop a new specification leveraging existing GS1 and OMA standards. It will allow mobile device manufacturers and operators to build mobile devices with the following key barcode scanning capabilities: universal scanning of standardised barcodes; built-in code scanning capability accessible to users manually through the device camera, and also to applications thanks to a Web API exposed on the device; linking of bar codes with trusted content provided by the owners of the bar codes; and support for collection of user analytics including location on an opt-in basis

French loyalty services provider Welcome Real-time (Welcome) has entered an agreement with loyalty management services provider Aimia to deploy its Welcome XLS solution for the Commonwealth Bank of Australia’s Awards credit card loyalty scheme.

The Commonwealth Bank has recently extended its Awards credit card loyalty programme so that the bank’s Awards members can redeem points instantly nationwide, at one of Australia’s retail department stores, on the items of their choice from fashion to electronic, beauty and home products. The bank is now looking to extend its programme so that cardholders will be able to claim rewards at other participating retailers in Australia.

Arcontia International, a Swedish producer of contactless smart card readers and terminals, has been selected by The Hague’s public transport company HTM in the Netherlands to equip its new trams with the Telexis e-ticketing solution based on Arcontia’s contactless smart card validators.

The contract includes delivering 720 ARC3300 T5 validators to be placed onboard trams operating in the city of The Hague. With enhanced user interface and contactless features, the validator will allow passengers to pay for their trips. Telexis’ e-ticketing solution provides the vehicle systems with the capability of automatic fare collection with a feature for online monitoring.

Finnish e-procurement and e-invoicing software company Basware has been selected by media and entertainment company NBCUniversal Media for its Accounts Payable Automation and e-invoicing solutions delivered across the Basware Commerce Network for connecting and transacting with suppliers and automating the invoicing process.

These solutions, which will be implemented in the US and other regions globally, will enable NBCUniversal to conduct e-invoicing, gain visibility and control over invoices and enhance relationships with suppliers.
