Swiss authentication and e-signature services provider Vasco Data Security has acquired UK-based secure visual transaction authentication services provider Cronto.

Following the purchase, Vasco will add the patented CrontoSign products to its offerings for the global banking market. In a later phase, Vasco anticipates that Cronto's products will be integrated into MYDIGIPASS.com authentication platform to secure the consumers' online applications/accounts.

Verafin, a provider of fraud detection and anti-money laundering (FRAML) software, has entered an agreement with Fundtech, a global provider of transaction banking services.

Under the terms of the deal, Fundtech will integrate its payment platforms PAYplus Connect and PAYplus US with Verafin’s enterprise FRAML solution. The integration will allow financial institutions to prevent wire fraud. Thus, users will be able to streamline their wire fraud alert review process:
• Wires are analyzed, as they originate, for anomalous customer behavior. High-risk wires generate risk-rated, evidence-supported alerts;
• Alerts are presented in a clear visual workflow. High-risk wires are held as the fraud investigator reviews the alert;
• The fraud investigator can use the wealth of customer data within Verafin to review the alert. If a problem with the activity is discovered, they have the power to reject the wire, preventing fraud loss and protecting the customer’s account.

In Australia, an average 16,500 cases of malware have been reported to Australian internet service providers on every day in 2013, recent statistics indicate.

According to data from The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA), the most prevalent infection type is numerous variants of the Zeus malware. This type of fraudulent action allows cyber criminals to steal money from an infected user’s bank account. ACMA deputy chairman Richard Bean, cited by online media outlet Computer World, mentions that Zeus is primarily used for banking fraud, and among other things, can intercept and modify an infected user’s online banking transactions.

Electronic invoicing isn’t new and has been around some time in the form of electronic data interchange. A question I am frequently asked, and most recently by a UK government Minister, is if e-Invoicing offers such compelling cost savings and efficiencies, then why isn’t everyone doing it?

It’s a great question, and one we are currently attempting to answer within the European Commission’s multi-stakeholder forum on e-Invoicing. The group I am leading is examining the SME market, and asking what the barriers are to full SME adoption. Whichever way you look at it, an SME wanting to initiate e-Invoicing on its own is faced with different challenges and this series of articles intends to examine the choices SMEs have today, and tomorrow.
